Making Tax Digital (MTD) is the latest step in HMRC’s plan to modernise the UK tax system. From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with an annual income above £50,000 must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using MTD-compatible software.
From April 2027, the same requirements will apply to those with an income over £30,000.
We can help you set up and maintain your digital records using MTD-compatible, HMRC-recognised software, and guide you through submitting your quarterly updates and annual tax return with confidence.
If you are unsure whether MTD applies to you, or you simply want to get ahead of the changes, get in touch and we will take care of it.
What does MTD for Income Tax mean in practice?
Under Making Tax Digital, you will need to keep digital records of your income and expenses throughout the year and submit a quarterly update to HMRC — rather than a single annual return. At the end of the tax year you will then complete a final declaration to confirm your figures. We stay on top of every change to MTD rules and deadlines, and we will make sure you never miss a submission.
